mac3Dubbed “Renaissance Man” by the St. Petersburg Times, I. “Mac” Perry (McVae) is an artist, author of eight books and over a thousand magazine and news articles on Florida landscapes and the Prehistoric Indians of Florida. He is a singer/song writer performing on bamboo flutes, guitar, harp and vibes. Mac holds three college degrees and is an avocational archaeologist active on the lecture circuit He is also the owner/president of a  Horticultural Pest Control Corporation in the Tampa Bay area.

Mac began painting in college in 1968 when he admired but couldn’t afford the art of local painters. He studied painting, sculpturing, and landscape horticulture at Virginia Tech, did graduate studies in art at the University of South Florida, and studied privately for many years.

mac fluteMac’s award-winning acrylic paintings depicting famous Florida and historic homes, street scenes and cityscapes, and beautiful flower filled landscapes reflect his love and attachment to the preservation of history. Mac is a “Colorist” and spends many hours studying and experimenting with color combinations that make his paintings radiate with an electrifying brilliance and  giving them a bias toward fantasy.

Mac and his wife Lynda Faye moved to Florida in 1969 where Mac served as Horticulture Extension Agent for the University of Florida. In St. Petersburg, they raised two sons in a home that sits on a thousand-year-old Indian mound overlooking beautiful Boca Ciega Bay.

Of his paintings, Mac says, “I like to paint scenes that allow you to come home after a long day, kick back with something cool in your hand, and escape into the canvas of a refreshing scene. “
